Atlanta Falcons vs New England Patriots Preview

Updated: September 25, 2013

The New England Patriots improved to 3-0 last week after a dominating performance against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a 23-3 win at home. The Patriots will be on the road this week as they travel to the Georgia Dome where they will be awaited by the Atlanta Falcons who are coming off a a 27-23 loss to the Miami Dolphins.

Tom Brady and the New England Patriots offense finally found its rhythm and  the young receivers really stepped up. After a bad performance last week against the Jets, the Patriots offense played well against a strong buccaneers secondary. Tom Brady completed 25 of his 36 pass attempts for 225 yards and two touchdowns. Brady also showed a lot signs of encouragement to his rookie teammates and the body language as much more positive than last when morale was really low in the locker room.  Tampa Bay scored the first three points but, after that it was all New England as the Patriots scored 23 unanswered points and cruised to the win. However, this week, the Patriots offense will have a tough task as it will have to keep with the Atlanta Falcons on the scoreboard. The Atlanta Falcons have a lot of weapons on offense and will score at home. The Patriots offense cannot settle for field goals as they did against the Buccaneers and will have to convert in the red zone. Luckily for the Patriots, the Falcons have  a banged up secondary and allow a lot of yards in the air. Brady will be able to exploit the Falcons defense but, he will need from his offense as well. This will be the first test for the New England defense who will be facing one of the efficient offenses in the league.

The Atlanta Falcons have a lot of injuries on defense  which will struggled last week against the Miami Dolphins. The Falcons defense just could not hold on and allowed the Dolphins to score late which sealed the victory for Miami. The Dolphins put up efficient drives and converted on all of their red zone attempts.  However, Matt Ryan and the  offense were efficient as well but, did not make big plays late in the fourth quarter to seal the game.  The Atlanta Falcons was only able to hit a field  early in the fourth quarter. Matt Ryan threw for 231 yards ad two touchdowns while completing 23 of 38 pass attempts.  However, credit should be given to the Dolphins defense which did a great job  of slowing down the Falcons offense and made a big play at the end of the game to intercept Matt Ryan and end the game.   This week the Falcons will really need their secondary to step up and not allow the Patriots to dominate offensively.  The Falcons secondary allows to many passing yards and has been exploited by elite quarterbacks. The Falcons do have a talented defensive line which should be able to pressure Tom Brady and force him out of the pocket. Also, Falcons offense should able to move the ball with ease and if Roddy White is healthy this week, expect him to have big game alongside Julio Jones who is always a reliable and dangerous player on offense. The Falcons cannot afford to drop to 1-3 as this game at home is really important.

Final Score Prediction: Atlanta Falcons 31, New England Patriots 24
