It has been a really surprising run for the 83rd sisranked Italian Flavia Pannetta who has upset many seeds in the tournament. After beating Simona Halep in straight sets to to reach the quarterfinals , she easily disposed of Italian compatriot Robert Vinci in straight sets as well 6-4 6-1. Pennetta has just took her game to another level and is playing with a lot of confidence. She has yet to drop a set in the whole tournament and has reached her first ever semifinal in a grand slam in her career. However, she will  now have to meet 2nd seed Victoria Azarenka in the semifinals at the 2013 US Open. Azarenka is entering the match on a 10 match winning streak and is really playing well.  In her last match in the quarterfinals, she easily cruised past Daniela Hantuchova in straight sets 6-2 6-3. Furthermore, both of these women have play against each other twice and have split the meetings. In their last match on hard court in 2011 at Dubai, Pennetta was able to win the match 6-3 6-7 6-4 but, this time around the stage is much higher and Azarenka seems poised to be the player to defeat Serena Williams. It’s unfortunate for Pennetta who was playing so well that she must go up against Azarenka at time when  the Belorussian is just in great form and simply is the better player.

Thus, the prediction and pick for Flavia Pennetta vs Victoria Azarenka for 2013 US Open is:

Victoria Azarenka to win 2-0
